Painting Coordination
Custom Painting Services for CNC Parts and Industrial Enclosures
BGCNC coordinates painting for custom mechanical parts, sheet metal enclosures and industrial equipment. We connect coating requirements with the part's material, fabrication route, use environment and appearance targets — then manage painting alongside machining, welding and other production steps.
With one point of contact for engineering, suppliers, quality and delivery, your team can reduce the effort of managing a separate finishing vendor in China.

Painting built around the part's requirements
Paint does more than set a part's color. The right coating system can provide a consistent appearance and help protect a component from handling, moisture, abrasion or other conditions specified for its application.
A successful result depends on the full process: substrate condition, cleaning, pretreatment, paint selection, application and curing. A coating that works well on a fabricated steel enclosure may not be suitable for an aluminum machined component or plastic housing. Part geometry and masking requirements matter, too.
We review these factors before production so the paint specification fits the part and its intended use — not just the requested color.
Substrate condition
Material, existing surface state and contamination drive the preparation route.
Cleaning & pretreatment
Degreasing and surface preparation before any coating is applied.
Paint selection
Industrial liquid paint or powder coating matched to the part and process.
Application & curing
Geometry, masking and cure conditions confirmed before production.
Coordinated manufacturing, preparation and painting
Painting is often one step in a larger custom-part order. BGCNC can coordinate the manufacturing sequence with its network of more than 50 proven manufacturing partners, developed through real project cooperation.
CNC milling & turning
Sheet metal cutting, bending & welding
Cleaning & surface preparation
Painting & specified surface finishing
Assembly, packaging & logistics support
Keeping these operations under one project interface can reduce handoffs, drawing misunderstandings and the risk of parts reaching the coating supplier with unresolved manufacturing issues. Our engineers and project team coordinate supplier selection, technical communication, production follow-up and quality requirements.
Substrate preparation and masking
Paint performance starts with the surface underneath it. Oil, dust, weld residue, machining marks, oxidation and handling contamination can affect appearance and adhesion. The appropriate preparation depends on the material, existing surface condition, geometry and coating system.
If a part has tight-fit features or functional interfaces, include them in the drawing or mark them clearly. Masking and coating buildup can affect assembly dimensions, so these details should be resolved before the first production run.
Requirements we review before production
- Cleaning and degreasing before coating
- Preparation of machined, formed or welded surfaces
- Treatment of sharp edges, corners and weld areas
- Protection of threads, precision bores, contact points and electrical grounding surfaces
- Masking locations that must remain unpainted
- Handling and packaging methods to protect finished surfaces
Paint system and color matching
The suitable paint system depends on the substrate, use conditions, required appearance and production volume. Options may include industrial liquid paint or powder coating where the material, geometry and supplier process are appropriate. We can help assess the available route against the part specification and coordinate the selected process with the manufacturing partner.
Color references
Provide a recognized reference such as a RAL or Pantone code where available. A physical sample or approved color chip can also help communicate the target.
Visual approval
Appearance can vary with substrate, surface texture, coating system, application and lighting, so visual approval criteria should be agreed in advance for parts with critical color requirements.
Cross-batch consistency
For multi-part assemblies or repeat orders, specify whether color consistency is required across different materials, suppliers or production batches to establish a practical approval method.
Film thickness, adhesion and inspection requirements
Coating thickness can influence protection, appearance, fit and assembly. Specify a target range or applicable standard if your project has one. If no thickness requirement exists, our team can help clarify the intended function and coordinate a suitable specification with the selected supplier.
Acceptance methods and documentation should be confirmed before production, especially for repeat orders or components with customer-specific quality requirements. Inspection availability depends on the manufacturing partner and the agreed project scope.
Typical inspection criteria
- Color and overall visual appearance
- Coverage, including edges and recessed features
- Coating thickness at defined locations
- Adhesion testing where specified
- Masked areas and functional interfaces
- Surface defects or handling damage
A practical fit for custom and multi-process orders
Painting coordination is especially useful when your order includes multiple part types or manufacturing processes. Our typical customers include hardware companies, machinery and equipment manufacturers, robotics and automation businesses, and product development teams that need custom parts in low to medium volumes.
Painted sheet metal enclosures, panels and brackets
CNC-machined housings, covers and mounting components
Welded frames and fabricated equipment parts
Mixed BOMs requiring machining, fabrication and finishing
Prototype parts progressing toward repeat production
Assemblies with specified color, masking or inspection requirements
For prototypes, we can help establish a workable coating route and approval criteria. As quantities increase, our engineers can review whether the process, supplier arrangement or finishing specification should change to balance tooling, unit cost, lead time and consistency.
Selecting a process that fits cost and use
Painting is not automatically the right finish for every component. The decision should account for substrate, operating environment, appearance, tolerances, batch size and the cost of preparation and masking.
BGCNC has a team of 10 manufacturing engineers with more than 10 years of industry experience. Their role is to help identify manufacturing and finishing considerations early, so avoidable rework and supplier coordination issues are less likely to surface after production begins.
What engineering review can help assess
- Whether the specified coating is compatible with the material
- How paint buildup may affect fit, threads or mating surfaces
- Whether a different surface finish is more suitable for the application
- Which components should be painted before or after assembly
- Whether the requested color and inspection criteria are practical for the order volume
- How to coordinate coating with machining, welding and other secondary operations
What to include in a painting RFQ
