Understanding SLS 3D Printing Technology

A powder-bed fusion process that turns digital designs into durable, isotropic nylon components.

SLS uses a high-power laser to fuse small particles of polymer powder, typically Nylon (PA12 or PA11). Unlike FDM or SLA, SLS does not require support structures during the build process. This allows for the production of complex geometries, interlocking parts, and internal channels that are otherwise impossible to machine or mold. The resulting parts exhibit isotropic mechanical properties, making them suitable for functional testing, snap-fit assemblies, and end-use components.

Support-free builds

Complex internal cavities and lattices without post-process removal.

Isotropic strength

Consistent mechanical behaviour in every build direction.

Assembly-ready

Snap-fits, hinges, and moving mechanisms in a single cycle.

Our Manufacturing Capabilities

We integrate SLS 3D printing into a broader manufacturing ecosystem to support your full project lifecycle. While SLS is our core tool for complex, high-geometry parts, our facility in Dongguan provides a complete suite of services.

Advanced SLS Printing

High-precision nylon production with consistent thermal control.

Secondary Operations

Bead blasting, vibratory finishing, dyeing, and chemical smoothing to achieve desired surface aesthetics.

CNC Machining

Precision milling and turning for metal components that require higher tolerances than 3D printing can provide.

Sheet Metal & Fabrication

Laser cutting, bending, and assembly for structural housings.

Injection Molding

Transitioning your successful SLS prototypes into high-volume molded production.

One coordinated partner

SLS, machining, finishing, and molding managed under a single point of contact.

Why Engineers Choose SLS for Functional Parts

SLS is the preferred choice for industrial hardware projects where geometry is complex and performance is non-negotiable.

  • No Support Constraints

Design parts with complex internal cavities or intricate lattices without worrying about post-process removal.

  • Material Durability

Nylon parts produced via SLS offer excellent thermal resistance, chemical stability, and impact strength.

  • Design Iteration

Quickly produce functional prototypes to validate fit and form before committing to expensive tooling for injection molding.

  • Assembly Testing

Create moving mechanisms and hinged parts in a single build cycle.

Process Optimization: When to Use SLS vs. Injection Molding

Choosing the right manufacturing path depends on your project's lifecycle stage. Our engineering team evaluates your CAD files against your specific requirements.

Stage 01

Prototyping & R&D

SLS is ideal for initial functional testing, allowing for rapid design adjustments without tooling costs.

Stage 02

Bridge Production

For low-volume requirements (typically 5–500 pieces), SLS provides a faster route to market than waiting for mold completion.

Stage 03

Transition to Molding

As your volume increases, we analyze the cost-per-part of SLS versus injection molding. If the unit cost of SLS exceeds the amortized cost of an injection mold, we guide you through the transition to mass production.

Engineering Support for Your Projects

BGCNC is not a simple print shop. Our team of 10 manufacturing engineers reviews your STEP/IGES files to ensure design-for-manufacturing (DFM) compliance. We check wall thickness, hole diameters, and tolerances to ensure the print succeeds on the first attempt. We help you identify where to simplify geometry to reduce SLS build time and post-processing costs without sacrificing structural integrity.

Quality and Material Traceability

We partner with manufacturers operating under strict quality management systems, including ISO 9001 and industry-specific standards where required. Whether you need a standard Nylon 12 part or a specialized reinforced material, we ensure the material properties match your application requirements. We provide inspection reports and documentation to verify that your parts meet the specified dimensions and quality standards before they leave our facility.

Integrated Supply Chain Management

Managing a supply chain in China can be complex. We simplify this by acting as your single point of contact. We coordinate between our 50+ proven manufacturing partners to handle your entire BOM (Bill of Materials). If your project requires an SLS-printed housing, a CNC-machined shaft, and custom surface finishing, we manage the logistics, quality control, and assembly so you receive a finished, ready-to-use component.
