AZ91D Magnesium Die Casting

Custom AZ91D parts, engineered for repeat production

BGCNC coordinates AZ91D magnesium die casting, secondary CNC machining and surface finishing for international B2B customers. We match projects with suitable manufacturing partners in China and manage engineering review, production, inspection and delivery through one team.

For electronics housings, automotive components and lightweight structures, we assess the design, tooling investment, corrosion protection and expected annual demand before recommending a manufacturing route.

AZ91D magnesium die-cast component for a custom manufacturing project

A project-specific review connects alloy, geometry, tooling, finishing and forecast into one manufacturing plan.

Material fit

Where AZ91D fits

AZ91D is used for magnesium die-cast components where low weight and a functional combination of strength and castability matter.

Potential applications

Electronics housings and covers, brackets, and lightweight structural components—subject to part design and service conditions.

Application-led selection

Operating environment, loads, joining method, finish and production volume all affect alloy and process suitability. We assess these alongside the drawing rather than choosing by material name alone.

Design before tooling

Die casting, tooling and part design

AZ91D die casting needs purpose-designed tooling. Tool cost and design depend on geometry, projected volume, cavity layout and production requirements. Reviewing the design before tool manufacture can help reduce avoidable changes, time and cost.

What we review

  • Draft angles and parting-line choices
  • Wall-thickness transitions, ribs and bosses
  • Gate, overflow and ejector locations
  • Features that may need secondary machining
  • Cosmetic or functional surface-treatment areas
  • Opportunities to simplify the design without compromising its purpose

Recommendations grounded in the project

Our manufacturing engineers review drawings and 3D models for manufacturability, critical dimensions, material requirements and production risks. We also discuss whether die casting suits the projected demand or whether another process is a better starting point.

Final design recommendations depend on the part, tooling plan and selected manufacturing partner. Tooling scope, sampling requirements, capacity and lead time are confirmed against the actual project rather than treated as standard assumptions.

Project coordination

From cast part to delivered component

One BGCNC team coordinates the manufacturing interfaces in China, from process review and machining through finishing, inspection and delivery.

Secondary CNC machining

Die-cast parts may need CNC operations for holes, mounting faces, bores or sealing surfaces. We review which features require machining and how to locate and fixture the part consistently. Where possible, we identify machining datums early and separate cast features from precision-machined features to avoid unnecessary machining and support a clear inspection plan.

Corrosion protection and surface finishing

Magnesium parts need a corrosion-protection plan suited to their environment and use. Moisture, chemicals and dissimilar metals can affect performance. The selected finish also needs to work with appearance, electrical, assembly and dimensional requirements.

We can coordinate suitable surface-treatment options with the manufacturing partner. Process availability must be confirmed for the alloy, geometry and use case. Define masking, color, appearance and performance expectations before production.

Inspection, assembly and delivery

We align inspection requirements with the drawing and project needs, including critical dimensions, material documentation or other agreed records. Certification availability and scope depend on the selected partner. For multi-part projects, we can also coordinate assembly, packaging and international logistics support.

Volume and route

Is AZ91D die casting right for your annual volume?

There is no single universal volume threshold. Die casting involves tooling investment, while per-part economics depend on part size, cycle time, cavity arrangement, yield, finishing and machining content.

We compare expected tooling and unit costs with your forecast to assess whether the investment makes sense. The options below are starting points for discussion—not fixed quantity cutoffs.

Compare tooling investment with repeat production

When demand is established and the part is suitable, die casting may provide an appropriate route for repeat production. Review annual demand, likely order size, forecast stability, lifecycle, tooling budget and target start date.

Application review

Consider the full part, not just the alloy

Electronics

We review enclosure interfaces, mounting points, finish requirements, and electrical or thermal considerations relevant to the design.

Automotive and lightweight structures

We consider loads, joining interfaces, operating environment, inspection needs and production forecast. AZ91D suitability depends on the application and project-specific requirements; no single alloy or process fits every component.
